IN HER WORDS Commemorates 50th Anniversary of the March On Washington

Liberated Muse Arts Group presented an excerpt presentation of IN HER WORDS during the inaugural Arts and Humanities Festival at St. Elizabeth’s East in Washington DC on August 17, 2013. The production is written and directed by Khadijah Ali-Coleman and during this excerpt presentation, Khadijah spoke about her process in creating the piece and motivation behind choosing the women featured. This excerpt was presented a week before a historic commemoration of the 1963 March on Washington that featured Martin Luther King Jr.’s  famous “I Have a Dream” speech. This excerpt featured original cast members Lyn Artope, Quineice and Nia Simmons and singer Deja Belle debuted as Nina Simone, filling in for Anisha Newbill who plays Nina Simone during the touring season.
